I've been keeping an eye on things when it's crashing, suspecting some likely issues but memory's been at 20%, CPU/etc. Predator sense no longer appears to be causing an issue, but likewise it now freezes whether Predator Sense is on the machine or not. I've done a fresh re-install of windows, including removing all files on my PC, and even with a fresh boot it continues freezing every randomly, sometimes after a minute or two, sometimes after up to an hour.Īt no point has it mattered what I've been doing with the machine - browsing, gaming, or just idling. I'm expecting it to crash while I write this message. But later, the freezing/crashing started happening again, every few hours, then progressively got worse - every hour, every half hour, now it's every few minutes. Was originally an issue with Predator Sense' memory leak, and uninstalling it fixed the issue. Had freezing/crashing issues since I first bought the ***** thing.
Acer gets a thumbs up from me, a very happy customer.Just wondering if anyone ever found a fix for this? I've had pretty much the same issue. The unboxing experience, the gaming experience, even the comfort experience is there, well worth the money you're spending on this machine. So, for that $2,000+ USD price tag, you're getting a durable plastic, long lasting, desktop replacement. The pros for this device so heavily outwiegh the cons that I'm giving it a 5/5, since the only way I found the cons was by honestly nitpicking around. It's big, 8.82 lb, 17.3 inch laptop, so not a small one, but it way over performs. Overall Review: I highly recommend this product to people who are looking for a big fat laptop that easily replaces your normal gaming desktop. And the audio is a bit stubborn sometimes as well, I found myself waiting a solid 10 seconds or so for my audio to play through headphones when unplugging them and plugging them back in.
Software was a bit janky? The predator sense software used up a bit more memory sometimes than I'd like, but nothing unbearable at all. Keyboard was not as clicky as I hoped, and maybe the track pad could have been just a hair bigger for a 17 inch laptop, but not a catastrophic let down, overall I got used to it, and type on it just fine as of a week or so owning it. Not a game changer, but a pleasant surprise in all honesty.Ĭons: Battery life is terrible, but it's a desktop replacement so it's not a huge gripe when you consider the performance of it. The memory is 2666Mhz memory, which was a pleasant surprise to me who thought it was only 2400Mhz. Despite the speakers being down firing, they get the job done more than well. Speakers are loud, clear, and bass-filled thanks to the Subwoofer on the bottom. After the Helios 500 streamed a 15-minute HD video. The Helios 500 remained cool while not gaming as well. Macro Keys up above the keyboard were found very useful for switching fan control and overclocking control settings on the fly while in-game. The Predator Helios 500 truly embraces its name by being a quiet, cool killing machine.
By that logic, quieter fans on idle and/or auto speeds. Thunderbolt 3 is an option, and there's two USB-C Ports instead of just one, good job on Acer for not chintz'ing out on that I guessīigger chassis, cooler temps. Doesn't get any better than 144Hz, and it's quite color accurate, IPS, large 17.3 inch panel.įan control is very extensive, allowing heavily customized fan speeds, auto fans, max fans, and it's very simple and easy to understand. 8th gen processors paired with a 1070 is a smart combo.ġ44Hz Screen.
